Review of the Work
Hansel and Gretel is one of the most famous fairy tales collected by the Brothers Grimm. First published in 1812 as part of Grimm’s Fairy Tales, the story follows two young siblings who become lost in a dangerous forest and encounter a mysterious house made entirely of sweets.
Hansel and Gretel are the children of a poor family struggling to survive. Faced with hunger and difficult circumstances, their parents take the children into the forest and leave them there. The siblings try to find their way home, but eventually become lost among the trees.
After wandering through the forest, Hansel and Gretel discover a remarkable house made of bread, cakes and sugar. Hungry and exhausted, they begin eating parts of the house without realizing that the person who lives there is watching them.
The owner of the house appears to be a kind old woman, but she is actually a witch who has created the house to attract children. She captures Hansel and plans to fatten him before eating him, while forcing Gretel to work for her.
Despite their dangerous situation, the children do not give up. Gretel eventually discovers a way to outsmart the witch and manages to defeat her. The siblings then escape from the house and return to the forest, where they discover a valuable treasure belonging to the witch.
After overcoming numerous dangers, Hansel and Gretel finally find their way home. Their journey transforms them from vulnerable children into resourceful survivors capable of facing fear and danger.
Hansel and Gretel combines adventure, fantasy and suspense with darker elements characteristic of traditional European fairy tales. The story explores themes such as hunger, courage, family, survival and the ability to overcome seemingly impossible situations.
The tale has remained popular for generations and has inspired countless adaptations in books, theater, opera, animation and film. Its combination of danger, mystery and fantasy has made Hansel and Gretel two of the most recognizable characters in classic fairy-tale literature.
